Emily Bell (senior) and David Abraham (junior) represented Ladue Horton Watkins High school and the Talking Rams (LHWHS speech and debate team) at George Mason University’s speech and debate tournament, held on Dec. 3 – 4. In a tournament with over 100 schools and 1,600 entries, Emily and David were both recognized at the awards ceremony.
David competed in Dramatic Interpretation and Extemporaneous Speaking; he qualified into the quarterfinal round of Extemporaneous Speaking. Emily competed in Impromptu Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking. Emily qualified into the quarterfinal round of Impromptu Speaking and qualified into the final round of Extemporaneous Speaking and earned fourth place overall.
Emily was also invited to compete in the Extemporaneous Speaking Round Robin hosted by George Mason University at the Fairfax Marriott on Dec. 2. Emily was one of eight students in the country invited to this prestigious competition. After seven head-to-head rounds, Emily earned 5th place in the Round Robin.
Emily and David will join the rest of the Talking Rams this weekend (Dec. 9 – 10) at Pattonville High School for the Pattonville Invitational. This tournament will be the last of the semester — students will earn a much deserved break before heading into a busy second semester of tournaments!
