Founded by Samantha Fisher, the Play It Forward STL organization was created with the belief that no child should be denied his or her musical voice. The organization believes it is the community’s responsibility, and obligation, to ensure kids have every chance to explore their musical passion.
In this segment of HEC-TV’s recent feature on “Play It Forward,” Ladue Middle School’s music teacher Brandon Williams is interviewed regarding the place music takes in the public schools.
Through a foundation, the “Play It Forward” organization aims to provide instruments, instrument accessories, sheet music, as well as opportunities to perform, to children in grade schools and high schools in the St. Louis area. In keeping with this mission, the “Play It Forward” Program: Donates musical instruments to children whose school and parents cannot afford the equipment; Contributes instruments to schools whose music department funding does not cover the costs for instruments for students who wish to join the school’s band program; and coordinates shows and events at local schools.
