Sarah Jacob and Katharine Ross, both freshmen at Ladue Horton Watkins High School were two of ten students in Missouri to win recognition in the 2012 Missouri State Poetry Society’s Winter Contest 2012 Youth Division.  Jacob’s poem is entitled A Beaty that Remains and Ross’ poem is entitled Earth. These students received cash prizes, as well as certificates.

The top ten poems in each division were sent on to represent Missouri in the Manningham Trust Student Poetry Contest, a national level contest sponsored by the National Federation of State Poetry Societies of which Missouri State Poetry Society is a chapter. Last year, a 6th grader from Pleasant Hill Intermediate School in Pleasant Hill, MO, received fifth honorable mention at national level, bringing Missouri’s total to six students recognized nationally in the past eight years.
