Ladue Middle School Counselor Janey Worthington was presented with the September Excellence in Education Award at the September 24, 2012 Board of Education meeting.
Janey considers St. Louis her hometown and began working in the Ladue School District in August of 1994, making this her eighteenth year with the district. Her first job with the district was the same one she holds today, although she spent two years as the Counselor at Conway Elementary School.
Before coming to the Ladue School District, Janey was a high school counselor in Michigan for 16 years, as well as a Social Studies teacher in Kirkwood for two years. All told, she has been in education for 41 years.
Janey is married to Ron and has two children who are also educators. Sarah Adams Schwartz teaches Music at Reed
Elementary School and her other daughter, Megan Adams, teaches at MICDS. Janey received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University, and has two Masters degrees – one in Teaching and one in Counseling – both from Washington University.
Ladue Middle School Principal Dr. Vicki VanLaere describes Janey as an outstanding counselor. Dr. Van Laere says Janey usually has a student “attached” to her in some way and is just a magnet for kids. She is professional and supportive of her team and her opinion is often sought out by colleagues.
Janey is willing to take a stand on issues important to her and her programs, and is admired for her willingness to put everything she has into an initiative she truly believes in. From her colleagues, you will often hear: “We’re simply lucky to have Janey in the Ladue School District and we’re a better organization because she is here.”
