On Nov. 16, 2012, Ladue Middle School hosted Madang, a traditional Korean Folk Music and Dance performance. Dr. Kim Song, mother of seventh-grader Daniel Song, works with the Korean American Association and coordinated the visit. The performers were in St. Louis to provide workshops and performances at Washington University and the Ethical Society, but made time in their schedule to visit Ladue Middle School and do a workshop for students.
Six different types of performances were included:
- Samulnori (drums)
- Daegum Sanjo (flute-like instrument)
- Gayageum Byeongchang (sung poem)
- Taepyung-Mu (dance)
- Pansori (dramatic epic vocal performance)
- Pan-gut (farmer’s music players)
