At the Nov. 25, 2013 Board of Education meeting, Gene Gaffney, a Supervisory Assistant at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, received the district’s Distinguished Service Award after nearly 27 years of service to the district.
Gene has been working as a Supervisory Assistant and Parking Lot Supervisor for the district since 1987. He came to the district after retiring from McDonnell Douglas after 38 years.
He has been married to his wife Shirley for 63 years and has two children – Sandra and Gary.
Brad Griffith, principal at the high school, describes Gene as an “institution.” Staff members, students and even the people who live in the neighborhoods surrounding the high school look forward to seeing Gene every day as he greets everyone with a smile and a wave. Mr. Griffith says, “His work ethic and commitment to students is reflected in everything he does for the high school and we are extraordinarily fortunate to have had him on our team.”
Gene’s last day with the district was Dec. 20, 2014. On Monday, Dec. 16, 2014, the entire student body was in the south parking lot to thank him and wish him well.
