Ladue Horton Watkins High School‘s Gutchewsky Receives October Excellence in Education Award

Not many school principals would go on record as saying, “If I were opening a new school, with any range of learner or ability level, I would want Kim with me.” But that’s exactly what Ladue Horton Watkins High School Principal Brad Griffith said of English Teacher Kim Gutchewsky.

Prior to coming to the Ladue School District, Kim taught English at Lindbergh High School.  Since August 2000, Kim has taught English at Ladue Horton Watkins High School.

Principal Griffith says Kim is a master teacher in every sense of the word. “She is committed, engaging and student-centered.”

Outside of the classroom, Kim provides tremendous leadership to her fellow teachers.  She serves as department chair, and as an active sponsor of Link Crew, where Kim passes those leadership skills onto her students.

She grew up in Webster Groves and has been married to Dan Gutchewsky for 16 years. They have a son, Michael, who is a first-grader at Meramec Elementary School in the Clayton School District.

Kim received her Bachelor of Secondary Education degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia and her Masters in English Literature from University of Missouri at St. Louis.
