LHWHS Team Named State Champions in Policy Debate

Ladue Horton Watkins High School students Benjamin Collinger (12) and Rasika Sant (11), earned first place and were named the 2015 Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) State Champions in Policy Debate at the 2015 Speech, Debate, and Theatre State Tournament which took place on April 24 and 25, 2015. Benjamin and Rasika were the only undefeated team in the tournament and did not lose a single ballot in preliminary rounds making them the number one seed heading into elimination rounds. Over the course of four preliminary and three elimination rounds, they only dropped two ballots giving them a ballot record of 15-2.

Benjamin Collinger and Rasika Sant hold their award.Benjamin also placed second in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking. The Talking Rams were also represented by Miriam Hauptman (12) in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and Storytelling and Jackie Wong (11) in Humorous Interpretation.

This is the first speech and debate state championship for LHWHS since 2006, the first debate state championship since 2000, and only the second Policy Debate state championship in Ladue Schools’ history. Benjamin and Rasika also qualified to the 2014 MSHSAA Speech, Debate, and Theatre State Tournament in Policy Debate and advanced to the semifinal round.
