Ladue Schools would like to congratulate one of our esteemed staff members for being awarded the Missouri Choral Director’s Association 2015 “Presidential Award of Excellence!”
Thomas Lowery is the choir director for Ladue Horton Watkins High School and the Ladue Fifth Grade Center. He also teaches Introduction to Piano and is the vocal coach for the Spring Musical.
“I was humbled when I heard I was selected,” he said. “It’s an honor when somebody recognizes the work that you’ve done.”
This award is not given annually; rather, it is bestowed at the discretion of the MCDA President to recognize exceptional service to the organization. Recipients exemplify the qualities of intellectual integrity and commitment to excellence, along with high musical achievement in the classroom and on the concert stage.
Tom said that while everyday interaction with kids is one of the highlights of his job, it’s more than just the day-to-day teaching that makes him love what he does.
“It’s those moments when all of the students’ hard work comes together in a performance and we can share that with everyone,” he said. “That’s why we teach.”
Tom has a Bachelors of Science in Music Education from Southeast Missouri State University, a Certificate in Music Education from the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Hungary, and has a Master of Music Education from Webster University.
Tom is the webmaster for the Missouri Choral Director’s Association. He is also a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Ladue Educators Association and is on the executive board for the Missouri Choral Directors Association.
The award is well-deserved, and Ladue Schools is fortunate to have Tom on our team!
