Congratulations to three Ladue Horton Watkins High School Graduates for being chosen for the McDonald’s Academic Excellence Award Scholarship! Nautica Huddleston, Gabrielle Hannah, and Malcolm Davis will each receive a $3,000 scholarship that is awarded to college-bound St. Louis and Metro East high school seniors.
The event was held at a McDonald’s on Florissant Avenue in Ferguson on Wednesday. Malcolm was unable to attend, but Nautica and Gabrielle were awarded their certificates at the event.
Gabrielle will attend DePaul University in Chicago, Nautica will attend Lane College on a softball scholarship in Jackson, and Malcolm will attend Dickinson College on a football scholarship in Pennsylvania. We wish them all success in their future endeavors!
Our students were out of 24 deserving recipients. More than 600 students from around St. Louis applied for the scholarship. McDonald’s and UNCF partnered to award a scholarship total of more than $70,000 this year.
“When you help a child, you help a family,” McDonald’s franchisee Jimmy Williams said. “When you help a family, you help a community. And when you help a community, you help the world. That’s what we’re doing here today.”
Malcolm was unable to attend the event, but both Nautica and Gabrielle said they were excited to see so many people show up to celebrate their accomplishments. Nautica plans on going into business, and Gabrielle is interested in pharmacy school. The girls were also ecstatic to receive Samsung laptops, a surprise gift from UNCF and McDonald’s.
When asked for advice to for fellow students, Gabrielle beamed and said, “Stay in school and focus, because it will pay off.”
