Ladue firefighters and police officers visited Reed Elementary on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, to hand out popsicles to our students during recess! The event was held to commemorate 9/11.
As you can tell from the photos, the students enjoyed meeting our local heroes. The girls and boys handed the firefighters and officers Thank You cards for all of their hard work and dedication in keeping the community safe. Many shook hands with the officers and talked to them about their jobs.
“We wanted to pay homage to 9/11 and add some positivity, so this activity gives our students some time to meet our everyday heroes,” Physical Education teacher Brian Driscoll said. “It’s important to have these community members involved in the schools, and meeting these firefighters and policemen gives them a basis to understand the day’s significance.”
The students all sported red, white and blue outfits to commemorate the day.
