Speech and Debate Team Successful in Season Kick-off

The Ladue Horton Watkins High School speech and debate team had a very successful kick-off to their 2015-16 season. The team competed in the Greater Saint Louis Speech Association’s Pre-Season Tournament on Saturday, September 19 at Mehlville High School.  The tournament is a limited preparation tournament offering Duet Improvisational Acting, Impromptu Speaking, and Extemporaneous Debate.

The following team members received awards:

VARSITY DUET IMPROVISATIONAL ACTING
Henok Getahun (12) and Ashwin Govindan (12) – 5th place
Gabbie Burton (11) and Oishi Paul (12) – 4th place
Noah DiAntonio (11) and Kyrollos Shenouda (12) – 3rd place

NOVICE DUET IMPROVISATIONAL ACTING
Ope Falako (10) and AJ Oruwari (10) – 4th place
Claire Golden (9) and Hale Masaki (9) – 3rd place

VARSITY EXTEMPORANEOUS DEBATE
Jacob Granick (12) – 6th
Simi Falako (12) – 3rd
Bobby Zitzmann (12) – 2nd

NOVICE EXTEMPORANEOUS DEBATE
Audrey Wang (9) – 1st place

VARSITY IMPROMPTU SPEAKING
Faris Ali (11) – 6th
Panth Shah (11) – 4th
Huayu Gao (12) – 2nd
Rasika Sant (12) – 1st

NOVICE IMPROMPTU SPEAKING
Sana Mahmood – 5th
Kelly Phung – 4th
Louisia Yang – 3rd
Olivia Liu – 2nd

Rasika Sant was named tournament champion in Impromptu Speaking for the second year in a row. Audrey Wang had a perfect 5-0 record and was the only undefeated debater in the tournament.

The team was also represented by Donovon Moore (9), Maya Mutic (11), and Joji Sherman (9) in Extemporaneous Debate.
