Congratulations to Spoede Elementary School, which has officially been named the #1 school in Missouri for logging the most minutes in the 2015 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge! Thanks to our inspiring teachers and parents, we have some excellent young readers in our schools, and they’re powered up to read throughout this school year!
Spoede Elementary students read a total of 178,443 minutes this summer, and the school is ranked 263 in the nation.
“This achievement is a testament to the love of reading instilled in our students here at Spoede Elementary School,” Principal Kimberly Stallons said. “We have dedicated parents and teachers who encourage our students to learn something new or expand their imaginations. Congratulations to all of our students who helped us read our way to the top!”
Students were encouraged to log minutes they spent reading to unlock 12 original stories written by favorite children’s authors. They also earned digital rewards for reaching reading milestones.
The school will be listed in the 2016 Scholastic Book of World Records and will receive a special personalized plaque to commemorate the students’ summer reading achievements.
This year was Scholastic’s 9th annual summer reading program, and students from 28 countries read a combined 286,611,349 million minutes.
