The Talking Rams, LHWHS’s speech and debate team, completed their season with heads held high.
Senior Simi Falako, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the Eastern Missouri district and 20th in the state! This year, Simi earned the highest degree level possible for a student: the Degree of Premier Distinction in the National Forensic League of the National Speech and Debate Association. “This accomplishment reflects 1,500 points and is the mark of an incredible career in speech and debate,” Head Coach Molly Beck said.
The International Public Policy Forum team advanced to the Round of 32. This is a written debate contest, where teams from across the world submit essays written on the topic of GMOs and food security. Then, the top 64 teams are randomly paired for the Round of 64. The Talking Rams’ IPPF team advanced with a 3-0 decision over their opponent Tenafly High School from Tenafly, New Jersey. The three students are Maya Mutic, Patrick Naughton and Bobby Zitzmann.
