For the third year in a row, the LHWHS International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) team has advanced to the round of 64! This is Ladue’s fourth year having a team in the contest. This year the team members are Olivia Liu (11), Hale Masaki (11), and Shelei Pan (10). They are competing against a team from the Taipei American School in Taipei, Taiwan. The team is coached by Molly Beck, high school teacher and speech and debate team coach.
The IPPF runs a written debate contest each year. This year’s topic is “Resolved: International climate accords for greenhouse gas emissions should adopt binding enforcement mechanisms.”
The IPPF received qualifying papers from 30 states and 17 countries. Each paper was scored by three random judges. The 64 highest-scoring papers advanced to the round of 64. The round of 64 consists of four papers – an affirmative constructive, a negative constructive, an affirmative rebuttal, and a negative rebuttal. After the fourth paper is written, a panel of judges will score the round and select a winner.
