Six Students Qualify to MSHSAA State Speech and Debate Tournament

The Talking Rams, the speech and debate team at the high school, competed in the MSHSAA District Tournament held at Parkway South High School on March 2- 3. The team qualified six students in seven entries to the MSHSAA State Speech and Debate Tournament and had two district champions!

Albert Liu (12), Quarterfinalist

Policy Debate
Sam Hiken (11) and Hale Masaki (11) – 2nd place; State Qualifiers
Max Kornfeld (11) and Olivia Liu (11) – Semifinalists; State Qualifiers

Public Forum Debate
Levi Dyson (12) and Edward Wu (12) – Semifinalists; State Qualifiers

Duet Acting
Jackson Bry (10) and Eli Goldstein (10) – 4th place

Radio Speaking
Levi Dyson (12) – 2nd place; State Qualifier

Original Oratory
Olivia Liu (11) – 2nd place; State Qualifier

International Extemporaneous Speaking

United States Extemporaneous Speaking
Hale Masaki (11) – 1st place and District Champion; State Qualifier

The state qualifiers will compete at the MSHSAA State Speech and Debate Tournament in April at Missouri State University.
