Reed Elementary Student Takes the MUNY Stage in Gypsy

Amelie Lock, a fourth-grade student at Reed Elementary, has had a summer she’ll never forget—she played a role in Gypsy, a MUNY production!

Amelie played “Baby June”, and she has had the time of her life on stage. To learn more about the show, visit See a clip from the show above! Amelie can be seen at the 4:22 mark.

Amelie auditioned for the MUNY for the first time this year! Previously, she has been in plays at Reed Elementary, A Christmas Story: The Musical at CBC High School, and productions at Ladue Chapel. Gypsy offered her first big role!

When asked what she liked most about her experience with Gypsy, she says that the best part was working with the amazing professional actors and directors, who have so much experience working in theaters around the world—including Broadway! She was also impressed with how supportive the cast members were of one another.

“It was such an honor to be part of the MUNY’s 100 Year Anniversary Season!” Amelie says. “It’s amazing that we have a one of kind theatre with 11,000 seats right here in Saint Louis! I found out that many Broadway actors dream of performing at the MUNY—Tony award winning actresses were as excited as I was to perform on the MUNY stage!”
Amelie plans to continue acting, with dreams of a national tour, appearing on Broadway, or starring in the movies!
