A student in German III, Jahnavi Vishnubhotla, took 2nd Place in a worldwide competition among Partnerschulen (partner schools). The competition, Smartphone & Co., asked students to create a short video about their use of electronic media (not just smart phones) in everyday life. Jahnavi made a film, submitted it, and won a tablet computer and received official recognition from the Goethe Institut. Click here to see the link to her film. Jahnavi had this to say about her film:
Translation: “We use technology every day. It’s an important part for everyone. Many people say it’s bad, but I see it differently. I personally make music and movies with my devices, and I find technology a very helpful, creative aspect of my life and connect it with the lives of others. Everyone uses their technology to create, be it “logical” like a spreadsheet or creative like a drawing. I love to be creative, to travel, and to be different. I think the movie represents me.”
The Partnerschule Initiative is now 10 years old. LHWHS has been a partner school since 2008, and Ladue Schools students benefit in a of myriad ways:
- They are in contact with learners of German world-wide.
- They receive stipends to study German in Germany (3 weeks all expenses paid) or in Portland, Oregon, at a week-long immersion camp.
- They can attend the PASCH Triathlon, held this year for the second time in Estes Park, Colorado, among others.
