Over the weekend of March 2-3, 518 miles from home, in the Bowen Field House at Eastern Michigan University, our very own Tristen Johnson accomplished something amazing!
Tristen Johnson, a 2nd grader at Spoede Elementary School and son of Dr. Tiffany Taylor-Johnson, Principal of Ladue Middle School, participated in the National 14U AAU Youth Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted in Ypsilanti, MI. With the adrenalin rush of the moment and in the spirit of the race, Tristen knew what to expect having competed the year prior and earning a medal. However, this year was different. He was older, more experienced, and more prepared for the competition. And it showed.
On that electric March weekend, Edward Johnson Jr., Ladue alumnus and Principal of Brentwood High School, sat on the sidelines and watched as his son competed with his team, the Mustangs Youth Track & Field Club. Flying across the track as though he’d grown wings, this speedy Spoede Turtle won the National Indoor Championship in his age group for the 60-yard dash and the 200-yard dash. He also competed in the relay with three of his teammates and brought the group to victory by pulling out the win on the last leg of the race.
Winning all of his races and team events, this was a weekend for the books. Congratulations, Tristen!
