The Ladue School District is proud to announce that it has been named a National District of Character and two of its schools — the Ladue Early Childhood Center and Ladue Middle School — have been named National Schools of Character. Ladue Middle School (2014) and Reed Elementary School (2018) have previously earned National School of Character Distinctions.
This distinction is granted by Character.org* to schools and districts that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development which has a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior and school climate. Districts and schools are assessed based on Character.org’s 11 Principles of Character which include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.
“The efforts made to support character education in all of our schools are what led to our district designation. So, we can all share in this recognition. This includes our students, employees, Ladue Schools families, and our greater community,” states Superintendent Dr. Donna Jahnke. “However, we are also particularly proud that our early childhood center and middle school received individual school recognition. It is well-deserved acknowledgment of the emphasis these schools place on educating the whole child – a tenet that is integrated in our mission statement, our Strategic Plan, and is the filter through which we determine — districtwide — where to expend our focus, energy and resources.”
Character.org will honor these schools and districts at the 2019 National Forum to be held Oct. 24-27, 2019 in Washington, D.C.
