In support of National Diaper Awareness Week that took place from Sept. 23-29, Ladue Middle School (LMS) partnered with the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. The students, staff and parents of LMS, with the support of the National Junio Honor Society (NJHS) and the LMS parent association, raised $1,745.31 for the diaper bank. These funds will purchase 7,588 diapers to help support families in the St. Louis area.
There is a significant need for diapers in our city. More than 1 in 5 families with children under 5 living in St. Louis City have incomes at or below the federal poverty line; nearly 10% live in deep poverty, with incomes below 50% of the federal poverty line (less than $10K annually for a family of 3). Paying retail prices, it costs $1,000 to diaper one child for a year, which is up to 15% of the take-home income of a parent earning minimum wage. In 2018 30,000 children received diapers from the STL Diaper Bank.
This was an amazing event for the community to come together. Thank you very much to everyone who made a donation.
