“Does targeted education impact recognition of scientific misinformation?”
That’s what Ladue Horton Watkins High School sophomore Oviya Srihari wanted to know. Oviya surveyed undergraduate students to learn more, submitted findings to the Academy of Science – St. Louis Science Fair and was ultimately awarded $1,000 Bayer Finalist Scholarship for the project.
The Science Fair was held at the end of the semester, but due to cancellations and closings, participants had to complete their projects remotely. Nevertheless, students stepped up to the plate in their respective homes.
Sophomore Arya Bhushan also earned a title of Semi-Finalist for, “A Novel Approach To Eliminate Carcinogenic Chemical 1,4 DioxaneI From Drinking Water: Towards An Approach To Develop A Resin For In-Home Water Filter System”
Arya received a $100 East Central District/Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri Scholarship Award; $100 American Institute of Chemical Engineers – St. Louis Section Scholarship Award; Yale Award (Certificate Award); and the $200 Bayer Scholarship of Excellence Award.
