A group of Ladue Horton Watkins High School students edged out a team of experts in a friendly quiz bowl-style competition on June 8.
Students Chris Ye, Jason Ding, Jason Xu, Max Yang and Eric Yin put their knowledge of ocean sciences, technology and policy on display in the ‘Battle of the Ages’ and came away with a victory.
The group previously won the 23rd annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) in April, and was invited to participate in the June 8 competition, which was held in honor of World Oceans Day.
The event was billed as ‘NOSBs versus PhDs’ – the students took on a panel comprised of experts from Stanford University, the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of New Hampshire, the New England Aquarium and Shell.
Held virtually, LHWHS won the two-round competition 124 to 118.
