Essete Workineh Earns Position on FOCUS St. Louis Board of Directors

Ladue Horton Watkins High School rising senior Essete Workineh has been selected as a Youth Representative on the FOCUS St. Louis Board of Directors.

FOCUS St. Louis is a civic leadership organization that educates and connects local community and business leaders in an effort to promote equity, growth and success throughout the area.

Essete is one of only two area students selected for the role; the board is comprised of more than 20 St. Louis community leaders along with the two youth representative positions.

As part of her one-year term, Essete will work with the group to help guide the creation of a strategic plan, support program activities, participate in FOCUS projects, serve as a FOCUS community ambassador and more.

She spent this past school year participating in Youth Leadership St. Louis, a program offered by FOCUS that prepares and empowers students to become civic and community leaders.

While participating in Youth Leadership, Essete and her cohorts explored issues like criminal justice, health care and diversity, and learned from community leaders and a research project with guidance from Saint Louis University.
