Sara Rohatgi Wins Top Prize in Young Writers Awards

Sara Rohatgi, an eighth grade student at Ladue Middle School, has won first place in the Young Writers Awards contest presented by the St. Louis Writers Guild.

Sara’s story, “Sunrise on the Cherry Tree,” was chosen as the best out of 16 finalists in the 6th – 8th grade category of the competition.

Participants from across the St. Louis region were asked to write a story that began with the line, “Beneath the mask…” and were allowed a maximum of 500 words.

Submissions were scored on originality, characters, cohesiveness, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Sara’s winning story will be published in an anthology produced by the St. Louis Writers Guild; she also was honored at an awards ceremony hosted by the Guild.

The Young Writers Awards were started in 2011 to continue the legacy of encouraging tomorrow’s authors.
