Talking Rams Qualify Seven for State, Win Two Titles

The LHWHS Speech and Debate team earned a pair of top-5 finishes along with two individual state titles in the MSHSAA State Speech, Debate, and Theatre Tournament held virtually from April 21 to 24.

The seven Talking Rams team members represented their school incredibly well in the field of more than 90 schools; the team tied for 3rd in Debate Sweepstakes and placed 5th in Speech Sweepstakes.

Individually, senior Anna Reis won the state title in International Extemporaneous Speaking and was a semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Junior Ryan Tung won the state title in United States Extemporaneous Speaking.

Additionally, senior Catherine Liao placed 7th in Radio Speaking, junior Sophia Liu placed 8th in Dramatic Interpretation, and seniors Grace Hu and William Xie were quarterfinalists in Policy Debate.

The Talking Rams were also represented in the state tournament by Oviya Srihari (11) in Poetry Reading.
