Sophie Miller Chosen for Synchronized Skating International Selection Pool

LHWHS freshman Sophie Miller and her local figure skating team have received a special opportunity from the U.S. Figure Skating Association.

Sophie skates with the St. Louis Synergy Junior Synchronized Skating Team which was recently chosen by the USFSA for the International Selection Pool for the 2021-22 competition season.

This means that Synergy will now be eligible for assignments to international competitions as part of Team USA.

Her team is one of only nine junior teams in the country to be selected for the honor; the team was also selected last year.

Sophie’s sister, Mara Miller ’20, skated on the team during the 2019-20 season during which it earned the high score at the National Championships, which contributed to Sophie’s team being selected this year.

Synchronized skating teams are comprised of 8 to 20 skaters who perform a free skate program together with various required synchronized elements.

The sport uses the same judging system as singles, pairs, and dance and is characterized by teamwork, speed, intricate formations, and challenging step sequences.
