Ladue Middle School 7th grader Ruby Jurgiel has been named a finalist in the St. Louis Writers Guild Young Writers Awards.
Her short story, “Father,” will be published in the Guild’s forthcoming anthology of this year’s winning submissions.
The contest was open to students in grades 4-8; their stories had to begin with the words “When the door opened…” and not exceed 500 words.
Judging is based on originality, characters, cohesiveness, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Jurgiel was celebrated during a virtual awards ceremony on Dec. 4 and earned an invite to the Writers Guild’s upcoming Holiday Book Fair.
