A team of LHWHS students took first place in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Regional competition on Feb. 12 in Milwaukee.
Yuvan Chali (11), Rohan Suri (10), Sophia Xu (10), Cindy Yan (10), and Max Yang (11) defeated several other teams in a buzzer-style competition at the regional competition held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences.
The team will now move on to the virtual 2022 NOSB Finals in May.
This is the third time LHWHS has advanced to the NOSB Finals, having won the national championship during the school’s last appearance in 2020.
The NOSB is an academic competition and program that addresses a national gap in environmental and earth sciences in public education by introducing high school students to and engaging them in ocean science, preparing them for ocean science-related and other STEM careers, and helping them become knowledgeable citizens and environmental stewards.
