Sophia Hillman and Gabriella Shafman Join Leadership Program

LHWHS junior Sophia Hillman and sophomore Gabriella Shafman have been selected to participate in Cultural Leadership’s educational leadership program.

They are among 20 students from around the St. Louis region who have been selected for the year-long program, which focuses on developing civic leaders and social justice change-makers through the lenses of the Black and Jewish experiences.

Cultural Leadership students participate in an intensive year of more than 420 hours of programming that goes from August to August.

These programs include cultural activities, public speaking, leadership training, travel, and facilitated workshops on issues of injustice.

Through these activities, students engage in their own and each other’s histories, religions, and cultures.

They also learn to see how systems of oppression have been constructed and function, and then are supported in taking action to bring awareness to and address these issues in their communities.

Cultural Leadership is a St. Louis-based youth education and leadership nonprofit dedicated to creating a more just community by training area youth to be the next generation of civil rights leaders.
