Ladue Horton Watkins High School senior Ryan Tung has earned the Degree of Premier Distinction from the National Speech & Debate Association Honor Society.
The degree is the highest a student can earn from the society.
Ryan currently serves as president of LHWHS Speech & Debate Team, co-coordinator for Public Forum Debate, and co-coordinator for Extemporaneous Speaking.
He helped the team navigate the transition to virtual debate and is leading the group as it returns to in-person competition.
Last year, as a junior, Ryan was named the state champion in United States Extemporaneous Speaking at the MSHSAA State Tournament and placed 4th in the country in the Pro-Con Challenge at the NSDA National Tournament.
Ryan has already qualified for the 2022 MSHSAA State Tournament in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and Duet Acting; he will compete in the NSDA District Tournament on March 19.
The NSDA Honor Society recognizes middle and high school students for participation in speech and debate activities, along with community service, public speaking, and leadership activities.
Students earn points for different activities, and must earn 1,500 points to achieve Premier Distinction.
